Camp Butler: Week One - All About Fish

This summer I am trying something a little different at the Butler house. It is called Camp Butler. Each week we pick a theme to learn about and we do activities based on our theme. This week's theme has been fish.

We started out by going to the library last week and checking out books that fit within our theme. We also have gone through our books and read ones we had that were related. We even have read a few Bible stories that were fish related.
We also added a new family member....a beta fish named "Swimmy." Georgia has been wanting a fish FOREVER and she finally talked Michael into getting one....since we were learning about fish (she's sneaky like that!). My dad gives Swimmy a week at the Butler house, but I hope we prove him wrong.

I printed off fish coloring pages from the internet that they colored with markers....

We made whale sun-catchers when Georgie's friend, Andy came to play. I must say they loved this craft! Georgie and Andy did great, but Daniel and Jack made a huge mess with the little plastic beads you use when making them. Anyway, it was worth all the mess, because they really had fun making them.

We did a fun Q-Tip painting. They wanted to paint Swimmy, so I drew out a simple fish drawing for them to paint with Q-Tips. They also really liked this one. Georgie was very particular about hers being just perfect. The boys on the other hand, turned theirs into finger painting. Thank goodness for washable paint is all I have to say!

We still are planning on going fishing one afternoon. We are going to cut some bamboo and make old fashioned cane pole rods. I'll be sure to let you know how that one turns out!

Summer Fun: The Library & Pool

Now that summer is here and school and Mother's Day Out are on summer break, all three little ones are with me 24/7. I have decided to take the summer off from painting so we can spend the days doing fun things together. When we stay home ALL day EVERY day, they tend to fight a lot. So I have tried to come up with a loose schedule of activities for us to do to try and bring a little order to what could be chaos during the days while Michael is at work. Thursdays are going to be library and pool day and I thought I'd share our first trips of the summer.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far!

Jack's End of Year Program

Last week Jack's preschool class held their end of year program. I have to say that I am SO very proud of him! His class sang many songs and recited Bible Verses and told about what they had learned this past year. Jack usually gets shy and clams up when he is in front of a lot of people, so I was a little worried that he might not participate (like he did at the Thanksgiving program). Not this time!! He sang, danced and did exactly what he was suppose to...and enjoyed it. He has matured so much this past year and is such a joy to us.

And we can't forget DD, who was down the hall waiting for us to come fetch him.

Warren and Daniel were patiently looking out of their room.

Daniel was so glad to see everyone!

First Grade Field Trip

Tuesday the first grade class at Tallassee Elementary headed to Montgomery to the zoo for their end of year field trip. The field trip had been rescheduled three times, the last time we were suppose to go the day the terrible storms and tornadoes hit Alabama. The day we went it was SO VERY HOT!! I think it was a record breaking high for the state of Alabama. Despite the heat, we had so much fun!

Water Hose Fun

The kids have been begging for weeks to play in the water hose and today we finally let them. This kept them entertained for a good hour! Sometimes it is the simple things like a hose hooked up to a basketball goal that create great memories!

Little Drummer Boys

One of the boys favorite things to do is pull out all the pots and bowls and arrange them on the coffee table to make a drum set. Notice their drumsticks are measuring spoons. All I can say is I need earplugs when they perform!

Taylor's 6th Birthday Party

Sunday we went to Taylor's 6th birthday party at Pump It Up. Taylor is the sweetest little friend to Georgie and I pray they will always be friends. Their little friendship is still so sweet and innocent....the way is ought to be. They play so well together and like a lot of the same things. Happy Birthday, Taylor!

This was Daniel's first trip to Pump It Up, and to say the kid is FEARLESS doesn't do it justice. I think he went down the slides about 100 times! I laughed because every time I looked up, I'd see that blond head and feet in the air sliding down.

Jack surprised me. He wasn't scared at all and loved the slides too.

And no surprise, Georgie loved it!
