Kidergarten Field Trip

Last week the entire kindergarten class at Tallassee Elementary School headed to Union Springs to Dream Fields Farms for their first class field trip. What a blast everyone had!! There were so many fun things for the kids to do...a petting zoo, tractor races, a hayride, corn field maze, hay slides, inflatable jumpers, cow train ride, corn "sand" boxes, a pumpkin patch, churning butter....and I know I'm forgetting something! Georgia was most excited that she got to ride a school bus for the first time. Mrs. Dickerson is the best teacher. I loved seeing how she interacted with the children and made all of them feel special and loved.

Tallassee Trade Day

Trade Day in Tallassee was Saturday, October 16th. Trade Day is usually pretty hot, you know typical October weather in Alabama! Well, not this year...it was freezing!! It was a lot of fun, as usual. Georgia's dance class performed this year. The song they danced to was about dressing up and getting pretty, so they were suppose to wear their favorite dress-up outfit. I must say, Georgia is such a ham! I wish I knew how to upload the video so you could get the full effect! She really puts on a show when she knows people are watching her! I swear we don't know where she gets it!

Alabama National Fair

Last Wednesday the Butler clan headed to the Alabama National Fair in Montgomery. The weather was a little questionable, but luckily the rain held off and it was actually very pleasant. Memaw, Paw Paw and Brittan went with us and we had the best time. We didn't think Daniel was quite ready for the fair so he stayed with Nana and Papa. We ended up staying for almost five hours, the longest we have ever stayed!!

Grand Ole Pumpkin Patch

Saturday we headed to the Grand Ole Pumpkin Patch in Clanton for Marshall's birthday. It was such a fun afternoon and the weather was beautiful!

Mission Friends/Choir

This past Wednesday night I sat in on Georgia's choir practice and Mission Friends at church. It was so much fun to be a "fly on the wall" for the night! I would go to everything they were involved in and sit and watch if I could. Thank goodness for them, I can't!

They are singing at church this Sunday night, and Georgia and Tyler are singing a solo. Here they are practicing.

Their Mission Friends class had a diaper drive to help Life Choice Pregnancy Center in Tallassee. I wrote an article for Tallassee Times this week about it. You can read it here.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and although September is almost over, I wanted to bring attention to this cause. In the United States over 12,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year, and approximately 3,000 will not survive. These are heart-breaking statistics. There are so many families hurting because of the effects of cancer...families who have a child battling cancer and families who are dealing with the loss of a child due to cancer. Which brings me to my reason for this post. About a year and a half ago, I stumbled by accident upon a family blog. A family who had a child battling a brain tumor. As I began reading, it was so sad to me what this family was facing. I sat there for almost two hours reading their blog from the beginning. Sadly several months after I found their blog, their son lost his fight with cancer the day after he turned four. I do not know this family, and they do not know me. I check in on their blog from time to time, but I pray for them almost every night. Gillian, Joseph's mother, has a wonderful gift...a gift of witnessing God's love for us all. In the midst of her pain, hurt, and grief she shared their life ( and suffering) with anyone who cared to read. The work of Christ in her amazes me. I urge any of you, especially mothers, to take the time to read her blog. Because of her, I realize how extremely lucky I am to be the mother to three beautiful, healthy and wonderful kids...who are not perfect, who not always easy, who are not always well-behaved, but are alive and healthy!! It really puts things in perspective and makes me so grateful for what God has given me. I am truly blessed.

My Baby is Scootin'

It's official....D is mobile!! He has perfected the "army crawl" and is roaming all over the house! He LOVES being on his stomach on the floor free to move around. He uses his arms to pull and his toes to push. It is amazing how fast he can get around. In this picture he had gotten a hold of this toy, played with it for a few minutes and then left it in the dust. He was headed for PJ...you just can't see him in the picture. He has done everything faster than Georgie and Jack. He has been studying them for six months now, and he is ready to play!!
